County Meeting Minutes
2008

I would like to share some information from our County meeting held in the Old Willimantic Post Office last month. Over 25 Postmaster attended the event along with President David Ravenelle, Tony Leonardi and I. The top conversation was the request made by Postal Service for all EAS employees to defer their pay raises for 6 months. President Dave handed out letters, signed from all 3 management associations strongly disagreeing with their proposal. As of this date nothing has change to indicate that we will be getting our NPA increases.
Another topic of discussion was the reduction in work hours. All of us have experience the stress and pressure to perform with less help (compliment) and the in ability to hirer replacements, all the while maintaining out standing service to our customers. At the EOY meeting District manager Ed Phelan stated, “If you can not achieve your budgeted hours you (PM’s) need to push back and explain why. I don’t want a bunch of yes men or women”. If you recall all the ideas presented by follow Postmasters were taken and may later be used. I was shocked and amazed by the suggestion of closing offices from 1hour to 2 hours for lunch or no lunch to 1 or 2 hours. With the decline of walk-in revenue how can this help. Working Postmaster know how much more they are being asked to do in function 4, the question is when will it stop? Keep track and document those hours.
I am asking all NAPUS and League members to stick together during these very difficult times. Remember these few rules, deliver the mail, keep your finances correct, be honest with your POOM and to yourself, and treat your employees with dignity and respect and require them to do the same.
Always remember, you are not alone.
Sincerely
NAPUS Editor Chapter 21
